Translink officially starts R6 Rapidbus Jan 1

Introducing the new R6 RapidBus to Scott Road

The Scott Road corridor has seen the highest ridership growth in Metro Vancouver with over 30,000 passengers every weekday. Starting January 1, these passengers can enjoy faster and more reliable service on the R6 RapidBus. Which will travel between Scott Road Station and Newton Exchange. The service runs every seven and a half to 15 minutes from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekdays. 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekends.

Our customers love the RapidBus for its high-frequency service, limited stops, access to bus priority lanes, and use of articulated 60-foot buses with all-door boarding.

Compared to current bus service, the R6 accelerates bus trips on Scott Road saving up to eight minutes in each direction.

From Translinks website earlier this year:

RapidBus is coming soon to the Scott Road corridor! In partnership with the City of Surrey and the City of Delta, the R6 Scott Road RapidBus will bring fast and reliable service to the Scott Road Corridor.

Construction to install bus priority infrastructure on roadways, such as dedicated bus lanes, queue jumps, and upgraded bus stops on the Scott Road corridor is nearing completion. This work will result in faster and more reliable journeys for transit customers. More accessible sidewalk space to get on and off the bus, and improved safety for all road users on the corridor.

R6 RapidBus will launch on Jan. 2, 2024, and customers will enjoy a service that’s at least 20% faster than local bus service. It brings much-needed relief for transit riders along Scott Road and 72 Avenue.

The R6 Scott Road RapidBus is TransLink’s largest service expansion since 2020 and will meet the growing demand for transit south of the Fraser River. Making the journey between Scott Road Station and Newton Exchange faster and more reliable.

The 13 other bus routes along Scott Road, like the 319, will continue to provide local service. They will benefit from the R6 RapidBus road improvements which include dedicated bus lanes.

On New Year’s Day, the R6 will operate on a holiday schedule before regular service begins on January 2.

Also starting Jan 1 there will be service adjustments on 12 routes total. 7 with increased service and 5 with adjusted service.
