Hamilton LRT progress as of December 4, 2023 Brian, December 4, 2023December 4, 2023 Last Thursday, November 30, Metrolinx hosted a virtual live event to discuss the progress of the LRT. I didn’t see the event personally though. The plan was to discuss the progress of the LRT and let people know what to expect going forward. The meeting began with a presentation addressing updates to the project, the recently announced design changes and the 2020 Building Transit Faster Act. The city of Hamilton had recently stated they were planning to convert Main St from a one-way road into a two-way through the downtown core. As a result, Metrolinx announced that the LRT would travel over a newly reconstructed Main Street Bridge over the 403. The proposed refinement plans will see the reconstruction of the Main Street bridge. They will reconstruct both ramps of Highway 403 and a full replacement of Frid Street. Metrolinx says that residents will soon see the first shovels in the ground for the new 14-kilometre LRT system. Crews will begin to relocate water mains and other larger procurement efforts to allow for more significant construction to happen. Housing advocates in the area have voiced concerns over displacements as Metrolinx began collecting properties for the project. Although there has also been development proposals for new residential developments along parts of the LRT route. The areas around Eastgate and the Queenston traffic circle have the most land for redevelopment. In June, the transit agency said it had collected 60 properties. At the time, it was reported that 43 out of the 60 had been demolished. 35 full buyouts and 300 partial buyouts still remained. Once I get more information I will follow up with a new post.
